Gold Star Feature: Bobbi-Angelica Morris of Covenant House Greater Washington

THEARC

As part of THEARC’s 20th-anniversary celebration, we’re spotlighting alumni from our partner organizations who have gone on to do incredible things.

Bobbi-Angelica Morris, a dedicated advocate for food security and sustainable agriculture, has played a pivotal role in transforming Covenant House Greater Washington (CHGW) into a hub for urban farming and holistic healing. As the Project Manager for CHGW’s garden program, Bobbi-Angelica has been instrumental in establishing an urban garden and hydroponic farm on the shelter’s campus. This initiative not only provides fresh produce for the shelter’s kitchen and community food pantry but also offers educational and therapeutic opportunities for the youth served by CHGW.

In collaboration with OurFarm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to embedding farms within urban communities, Bobbi-Angelica has facilitated the installation of a container farm equipped with advanced hydroponic systems. This farm enables year-round cultivation of various crops, including lettuces, leafy greens, herbs, and root vegetables. Fifteen percent of the weekly harvest is donated to CHGW’s food services programs, which feed over 100 homeless youth daily, while the remainder is sold to local restaurants and community members to fund farm operations.

Reflecting on their motivation, Bobbi-Angelica emphasizes the importance of pursuing one’s passion: “I realized that none of us will ever be happy doing something we aren’t truly passionate about. I decided to follow my passion for food [security] to show the youth that life has many pathways, and all you have to do is take the first step to achieve a goal.”   Their dedication exemplifies how passion and commitment can create meaningful change, inspiring the next generation to explore diverse pathways and opportunities.
