Building Strong Communities

The 11th Street Bridge Park, a collaboration between the District government and Building Bridges Across the River, will transform the old 11th Street Bridge into D.C.’s first elevated park. Since 2015, the Bridge Park team has been working to ensure that the park is a driver of inclusive development—development that provides opportunities for all residents regardless of income and demography. By following a community-driven process, it is our hope that other cities can look to the Bridge Park as a prime example of how public and private sectors can create world-class public space while ensuring nearby residents can stay and thrive in place.

Thanks to support from the Kresge Foundation, the Bridge Park team is offering no cost, in-person technical assistance to other organizations desiring to create their own needs-driven development strategies. Five organizations from around the country will be selected for this opportunity. If your organization wants to take a proactive approach to responsive development in your community, this may be the program for you. See below for requirements and how to apply.
