Equitable Development Manager

The 11th Street Bridge Park (a project of the Ward 8 non-profit Building Bridges Across the River) is searching for an Equitable Development Manager to help implement the park’s Equitable Development Plan (EDP.) This critical position builds on the work of the last several years as the organization ensures that the thousands of residents who have helped shape this new civic space can continuously benefit from it. The EDP has strategies in five key areas: housing; workforce training; small business / entrepreneur support; arts & culture; and health & wellness.

This position will work with the Senior Equitable Development Manager to coordinate EDP strategies with non-profits such as Manna, Douglass Community Land Trust, Housing Counseling Services, Anacostia Business Improvement District, local universities, government agencies and pro bono small business efforts provided by Booz Allen Hamilton, Accenture and Capital One

Maintenance Technician

Building Bridges Across the River is searching for a Maintenance Technician who will work closely with the Building Engineer and perform maintenance tasks necessary to maintain, enhance and meet building and campus specifications. The position is geared towards candidates who have several years of experience working in the maintenance field, and ideally have professional certifications. The Maintenance Technician may need to travel between Building Bridges’ different campuses (THEARC East, THEARC West and Skyland Workforce Center).

Ways to Give

Building Bridges Across the River relies on charitable gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies to make our work possible. You can choose to designate your gift to one of our core programs – THEARC, THEARC Theater, THEARC Farm, Skyland Workforce Center, 11th Street Bridge Park – or wherever it is needed most.

Whether you are a new supporter or have given before, we thank you. Please contact us with any questions at development@thearcdc.org or 202-889-5901.

Your donation is tax-deductible. Building Bridges Across the River’s tax identification number is 52-2013526.

To help ensure families living East of the Anacostia River have equitable access to the critical resources Building Bridges provides, designate your gift to “wherever it’s needed most” to support our operations.

Deciding how to create a legacy is an important personal decision. Your planned gift to Building Bridges may be part of a comprehensive estate plan that will enable you to provide for your loved ones and community in ways that maximize personal objectives and minimize personal taxes. Please contact Sue Breitkopf at sbreitkopf@thearcdc.org with any questions.

You may be able to increase your impact via an employer-sponsored giving/matching gift program. Many organizations match employee contributions to qualifying organizations, yet billions of dollars in matching gift funds goes unclaimed every year. And, if you volunteer with Building Bridges, your employer may provide us with a grant related to your efforts/area of interest or double your donation to recognize your ongoing support. Please contact Jamal Chevis at jchevis@thearcdc.org with any questions.

You can donate stocks or bonds, transfer a mutual fund, or transfer an IRA distribution to Building Bridges. Please contact Sue Breitkopf at sbreitkopf@thearcdc.org with any questions.

If you prefer to mail a check, please send it to: Building Bridges Across the River, 1901 Mississippi Ave. SE, Washington, DC 20020.

If you prefer to make a credit card donation over the phone, please call 202-889-5901.

Honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate a special event in a friend or family member’s life by making a gift in their name. We will notify them of your gift via a personalized email or, if you choose, a personalized card. Select the “I’d like to make this contribution in honor or memory of someone” option on our online form to send an e-card.

If your loved one has selected Building Bridges Across the River as the beneficiary of memorial gifts, please contact our Development Office at development@thearcdc.org.

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a special philanthropic account at a financial institution, community foundation, or public charity to recommend grants to your favorite organizations like SOME. There are three things you may need when recommending a grant from your DAF to Building Bridges Across the River: Our Tax Identification Number is 52-2013526; and our principal office is located at 1901 Mississippi Ave. SE, Washington, DC 20020. Once you recommend a grant to Building Bridges, please notify Jamal Chevis at jchevis@thearcdc.org of your fund name, the amount of your grant, and any other pertinent details.

Transferring an IRA distribution to a charity allows retirees to avoid paying income tax on the amount withdrawn, and these qualified charitable distributions can be used to satisfy IRA required minimum distributions. Qualifying distributions may be made in amounts up to $100,000 per year. To learn more about directing your qualified charitable distribution to Building Bridges, contact Sue Breitkopf at sbreitkopf@thearcdc.org.

You can provide consistent support to Building Bridges with monthly contributions that are automatically deducted from your checking account or credit card. You’ll retain complete control of your giving, and may increase, decrease, or suspend your contributions at any time. To make a monthly gift by credit card,  click here

You may designate Building Bridges Across the River in your Combined Federal Campaign (#97182) or United Way Campaign (#8884) giving.
