Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) was built in 2005 as a state-of-the-art facilities located in Washington, DC’s Ward 8.
THEARC offers the opportunity for our families living east of the Anacostia River to receive world class services directly within the community.
The Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) was built and is operated by Building Bridges Across the River, a nonprofit 501-c-3 organization. THEARC was built in 2005 as a $27 million, 110,000 square foot , state-of-the-art campus located in Washington, DC’s Ward 8. In 2018 THEARC expanded and added a 92,000 square foot building on the west side of the campus.
THEARC houses 14 nonprofit organizations and includes a 365-seat community theater, black box theater, urban farm, regulation-size gymnasium, libraries, computer labs, classrooms, studios for dance, music and visual arts studios, an art gallery, public playgrounds, and more. Thearc supports the resident partners’ by offering office, rehearsal, classroom, program, performance space and facilities management free of charge. THEARC is a home away from home for the many underserved children and adults of East of the River, with the help of our non- profit resident partners, the community is able to participate in dance classes, music, fine arts, academics, continuing education, mentoring, tutoring, recreation, medical and dental care, and other services at a substantially reduced cost or no cost at all.
